MARILYN MANSON Slapped With Wrongful Death Lawsuit
April 3, 2002A wrongful death suit has been filed against MARILYN MANSON by the mother of actor Keanu Reeves' late girlfriend Jennifer Syme accusing the frontman of supplying her daughter with cocaine and encouraging her to drive while inebriated.
Maria St. John reportedly claims that MANSON supplied 28-year-old Syme with various quantities of an illegal controlled substance during a party at MANSON's home on the evening of April 1st, 2001, after which Jennifer apparently got a lift from another attendee at the party back to her house. Syme then got into her 1999 Jeep Cherokee with the intent of returning to MANSON's home, and, while driving north on Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood, crashed into three parked cars on the east side of the street and was thrown from her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of April 2nd.
Words cannot express the pain that I feel over the loss of Jennifer Syme's life," MANSON said in a statement. "After Jennifer was sent home safely with a designated driver, she later got behind the wheel of her own car for reasons known only to her. Her death is sad and tragic.
Among the people acting as pallbearers at Symes' funeral were Reeves, JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro, film director David Lynch, and ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian. Photos taken at the funeral can be viewed at this and this location.
